Challenge
As part of a major divestiture, Veritas needed to consolidate teams, eliminate redundancies, and design a new org structure. Traditional tools couldn’t support the complexity of skills mapping and matrix reporting required.
Results
Veritas Automata gained clarity and control to restructure during a complex divestiture using Functionly, and with matrix views, Veritas aligns skills to project teams, identifies overload risks, and makes faster, smarter hiring decisions.
Key Use Cases
Workforce Planning, Restructures & Re-orgs, Business Function Mapping, Dynamic Org chart, Reduction in Workforce
"Functionly helped me visualize the new business from the ground up. We were spinning out a company, and I needed to understand who we had, where there was overlap, and how to reshape the team for a leaner, more strategic org."

“I’ve used Visio and other tools, but Functionly is just faster. It saves me enough time that the subscription justifies itself.”

“It lets me say: if I move this person here, what does that do to the capabilities of the other team? That kind of scenario planning is critical.”

“What I love is that we're all looking at the same version of the organization regardless of changes made by different people. That’s something I could never achieve with PowerPoint or Visio.”

The Situation
Ben Savage, Veritas Automata CEO, discovered Functionly while working on a major divestiture at Apex Supply Chain. Tasked with restructuring the new business, Ben needed a way to assess overlapping teams, reduce redundancy, and redesign the org for efficiency. Functionly allowed him to visualize three development teams across multiple geographies and identify how to consolidate skills, reduce headcount, and realign roles. “We sold 80% of the business. I had to figure out what to keep, where we had duplication, and how to staff a smaller but more focused team.”
When that effort led to the formation of Veritas Automata, Ben brought Functionly along. Today, the platform is a key part of Veritas’s planning toolkit.
The Solution
Ben uses Functionly to import organizational data via CSV and visualize teams in ways that typical HR tools can’t support. With multiple scenarios, functional charts, and dotted-line reporting, Veritas models real-world complexities — including staffing for multiple projects, geographic overlays, and skill distribution across technical teams.
Functionly’s collaborative features allow Ben to work alongside his Chief Product Officer, Senior Director of HR, and delivery leads to plan project staffing, model capacity, and assess hiring needs. With matrix-style team assignments and dotted-line reporting, Functionly enables Veritas to manage resource load, spot overload risk, and understand where to invest in training or headcount.
